5 Daily Practices to Help You Manage Stress

Take these steps for managing stress in everyday life

As much as we would like to eliminate it, stress is an essential part of living. Without it, our bodies wouldn’t react to truly dangerous situations and we wouldn’t have the second nature to look both ways before crossing a street. However, stress can become overwhelming–even chronic–and make it difficult to face daily activities with a sense of calm. 1. Exercise

It’s commonly known that exercise helps keep your body fit and protects you from health conditions, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Less known, however, is the fact that regular exercise is also important for your mental health. When you engage in exercise, your brain releases endorphins that immediately reduce your stress levels, as well as helps you carry a sense of calm throughout your day. In addition, exercise increases focus and reduces fatigue, making daily activities more productive.

2. Meditation

Meditation has long been regarded as an effective tool for calming the mind and body in order to remain in the moment as opposed to stressing about the future or dwelling on the past. Findings from a study published in JAMA Internal Medicine recommend that clinicians engage with patients concerning the effectiveness of meditation for managing psychological stress. 3. Aromatherapy

Utilizing aromatherapy is a subtle, but effective, way to relieve stress. Certain essential oils have a soothing effect on the mind and body while others offer an energizing effect. You can place essential oil diffusers in your home or at work to provide a consistent supply of calming or invigorating energy that subconsciously helps you face daily stressors.
