Men – Are You Living a Healthy Lifestyle?

Follow these five tips for healthy lifestyle to improve your health

Both men and women can struggle to live a healthy lifestyle. When so many of us spend the majority of our time in an office chair and cooped up indoors we can easily overlook the importance of our health.

However, life expectancy is shorter for men than women, and therefore it’s important for men to keep a close eye on their health. A healthy and active lifestyle is essential; whether you’re struggling with joint pain, erectile dysfunction (see how to treat it without medication) or your mental health. So, how can you make sure you’re living a healthy lifestyle?

Maintaining strong body and physical fitness are one of the essential qualities of men.
But additional steps need to be taken for men to enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

Exercise more

It can be difficult to incorporate exercise into our routines, especially as we get older. However, exercising is essential to living a healthy lifestyle and has many benefits such as strengthening joints, reducing the risk of heart diseases and improving our mental health. So, whether you join a gym, try some exercise classes or go on lunchtime walks, if you can regularly incorporate exercise into your day you will see a significant improvement on your general health.

Drink less and quit smoking

For many people, smoking and drinking alcohol go hand in hand. If you’re used to a party lifestyle, drinking and smoking in excess may be a regular occurrence. You probably know that smoking and drinking alcohol have negative impacts on your health, but you may notice that, as you get older, hangovers are harder to deal with. This is your body telling you that it cannot metabolise as it once did. Therefore, you should think about quitting smoking and reducing your alcohol intake.

Drink water

We all know there are many benefits of drinking water. Regulating our body temperature, boosting our skin and lubricating the joints, water really is the magical liquid that our bodies require. But most of us simply don’t drink enough. It’s important for men to stay hydrated, especially if you’re hitting the gym and staying active throughout the day. True, women need to drink plenty of water too, but men generally have higher levels of fat and therefore need more liquid consumption. Make sure you’re drinking at least 2.5 litres of water a day to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Ditch fast food

A healthy diet is key for a healthy lifestyle. It’s no good quitting smoking, taking up running and drinking plenty of water if you’re eating fast food every day. Whilst it’s OK to treat yourself every now and then, fast food can have detrimental effects on our bodies. High in sodium, saturated fat and cholesterol, it can cause high blood pressure, heart disease and weight gain. Plus, some studies have shown that it could cause issues with male fertility. So, ditch the greasy burger and cook something nutritious at home.

Talk it out

It’s commonly known that men are more likely to avoid speaking about their emotions. But, for a healthy lifestyle, it’s important to open up and discuss the way you’re feeling. This might mean speaking to a friend, partner or mental health professional.
