Coffee makes you smarter
People feel refreshed and more energetic after they have had their first cup of coffee in the morning. This happens because coffee contains caffeine, a powerful stimulant which is actually acts as a psychoactive substance, too.
When you have your morning cup, caffeine is absorbed into your blood and it travels all the way to your brain where it blocks an inhibitory neurotransmitter.
By blocking adenosine, neurons start firing up more which results in improved functions of the brain: better memory, more energy, and shorter reaction time.
It’s good for the heart
Heart diseases are one of the main death causes today, and anyone who is serious about their health knows the importance of having a healthy heart. A cup or two of plain coffee per day can reduce the risk of developing a cardiovascular disease. Drinking coffee, black and green tea, and other drinks which contain caffeine reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, according to a Japanese study. This doesn’t mean that you will not have heart problems if you drink coffee, it just lowers the risk, so you should still visit your doctor and have regular check-ups.
It can help you lose weight
Athletes use caffeine to boost their energy levels and get better results from their workouts, but it is known that coffee can help you feel less hungry, thus helping you lose some weight in the process. Aside from caffeine, coffee also contains certain amount of potassium and magnesium, and these help the human body use insulin more effectively. As a result, your blood sugar levels are regulated and your need for sweets and unhealthy snacks becomes much lower. What is more, caffeine from your coffee can decrease your insulin sensitivity and reduces your glucose tolerance, thus significantly reducing your risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
The smell of coffee reduces stress
It is incredible how many people are exposed to stress every day. This leads to mood swings, health issues, and sleep deprivation. The smell of coffee when you are sleep deprived helps you relax and calm down, which in turn makes you more productive. When you wake up in the morning try taking a couple of minutes more and actually grind some coffee beans yourself. The smell of freshly ground coffee is probably one of the best smells in the world. You can also try roasting your coffee in the morning because it makes the taste more potent.
It doesn’t matter how healthy coffee actually is, if you are drinking too much of it, the effect it reversed. Too much of a good thing can have the opposite effect. This is just one of the reasons why you should limit your caffeine consumption and drink no more than three cups of coffee per day. keep in mind that many of these benefits are connected to caffeine, so drinking decaf coffee might not have the same effect.
