A diet rich in healthy proteins, a regular routine based on heavy lifting, and occasional supplements are often required to get ripped. However, if you’re a smoker it might be difficult to attain all your goals. That happens because smoking affects your breathing. The body doesn’t get the oxygen that it needs to make the most of a training session, and eventually you end up pausing or stopping the workout in the middle of the session.
Can switching to e-cigarettes help you build more muscle?
Yale School of Medicine recently undertook a study that was meant to determine whether e-cigarettes have any effect on the body. The results showed that inside the center of the brain (hypothalamus), there’s a nicotine receptor. Since the hypothalamus controls appetite and other cravings, the study found that eating less can be done without nicotine; people who smoke but can’t quit don’t have to get fat. They just need to find the right suppressant – the e-cigarette.
The research was performed on lab mice, and it emphasized that nicotine triggers an increase in thermogenesis and metabolic rate; thus causing elevated caloric burn out. In addition, nicotine affects the pancreas, which in turn reduces insulin secretion. And without ample insulin levels, the human body is compelled to get more energy from the fat stored in the body when working out.
Under no circumstances we would advise non-smokers to start “vaping” to burn more fat. The advice is solely targeted at regular smokers of traditional cigarettes, which are a lot more dangerous to one’s health than e-cigs. Some bodybuilders might find smoking appealing because it does suppress appetite, but that’s not recommended if you want to look and feel good when working out.
Traditional smoking vs. e-cigarette smoking
Let’s get one thing straightened out: none of these two smoking ways are healthy. But if you had to choose, go with e-cigs. As opposite to traditional smoking, “vaping” doesn’t involve putting tobacco inside your lungs and body. Your breathing will improve and you’ll be able to finish off your daily training without feeling exhausted. Traditional smoking has lots of negative effects on your vascular system. That happens because you inhale monoxide carbon and nicotine; together these boost fibrinogen, a very important blood clotting factor, lowering good cholesterol and compelling the blood to become “pasty” and less fluid.
The walls of your arteries will began building plague, and in time they will shrunk, triggering reduced blood supply to the heart and organs. Unlike traditional smoking, vaping doesn’t affect your endurance levels at the gym. Bodybuilding demands a lot of effort and determination. Being able to push through those last 30 minutes of cardio makes all the difference. You can’t do that if you smoke normal cigarettes. Your body becomes weak and your breathing is severely affected.
The good news is electronic cigarettes can also be used to quit smoking once and for all. Many can’t give up this bad habit because they don’t want to gain wait, and eventually give up heavy lifting completely. E-cigs can help you attain all your goals. But then again, you need to be determined. Take matters into your own hands and do it gradually.
Now it’s your chance to live a healthy life and give up a habit that can have severe effects on your general wellbeing. Traditional smoking doesn’t just affect your internal organs; it affects your skin, teeth, and hair too. “Vaping” allows you to work out at your fullest potential, and eventually quit, realizing that smoking just doesn’t play a significant role in your life anymore.
