Break this habit and prevent the widening of spaces between your teeth.
#4: Avoid leaning your face on your hand for a long period of time
Gentle but consistent pressure on your teeth can slowly cause them to move to undesirable positions. The possibility is even elevated if the pressure is strong. For instance, if someone has unconsciously, yet habitually leaned his hand on his face while working on the computer, he risks pushing his teeth inward with constant pressure on the leaned area. Thus, it is advised that you don’t rest or slump by leaning your face on your hand for a long time.
#5: Do not sleep face down
Some people might feel more comfortable sleeping on their face. However, this practice is harmful to your teeth. If you are sleeping on your face, your teeth are pushed inwards causing them to have inconsistent positioning. To prevent teeth gap, sleep on your side or on your back instead.
#6: Consult your doctor if there is a need for any procedure
Although there are many non-invasive ways to deal with teeth gap, people cannot always control the circumstances. Labial frenum, for example, can cause diastema. It pertains to the tissue that extends from your upper lip to the gum above your front teeth. A continually growing labial frenum can cause teeth gap. Therefore, if you notice that your labial frenum (or your child’s) is already about to pass between your two front teeth, immediately visit your dentist and ask if any procedure is necessary.
#7: Get dental implants if you have missing teeth
Having one or more missing teeth cannot only create space in the affected area but also on the surrounding ones. If you want to prevent the condition while it has not yet invaded your oral cavity, opt for dental repairs. For one, you can get implants, a partial denture, or a bridge as a dental repair option.
#8: Wear your retainers
If you have previously had diastema but has already gone through a dental repair, teeth gap will usually not occur again. However, there are some cases when they do. To prevent them from happening again, orthodontists usually recommend wearing retainers. They may also attach the back of your teeth with the other using a wire and composite plastic to prevent movement. If you were directed to wear retainers, do so religiously to prevent gaps from coming back.

Dentists are more likely to suggest getting braces to fix gaps in teeth. However, this isn’t the only option and may not even be the best one. So, how to close gap in teeth without braces? There are various ways such as the use of oral bands. The most cost-efficient option is probably the teeth gap band.
This orthofill band is simply slipped onto the affected teeth in consecutive nights to prevent teeth gap from worsening. In as early as a week or a couple of months, results can already be seen. For this method to be effective, however, the gap should not be more than 3.5 mm as undue pressure on the other teeth can only misalign them. Nevertheless, this can be very effective for adults who do not suffer from any gum or tooth disease.
#10: Consider dental bonding
Another quick and affordable fix for teeth gap is dental bonding. In this procedure, a tooth-resin is applied to the affected tooth and is hardened with some special dental light. In just about an hour or so, you’ll no longer have broken or chipped tooth, instead you’ll have an improved tooth appearance. One drawback of dental bonding, however, is that it is not as stain resistant as crowns, and only last a couple of years as the materials can break off.
