5 Foods You Should Learn More About
to Increase Your Dental Health

How these foods affect your dental health

When it comes to having healthy teeth it is all about the foods you eat. Even though you can today opt for crowns, fillings and professional whitening it is always a good idea to try to avoid cavities and stains in the first place. This means that you will have to pay a lot of attention to picking foods which are good for your health. There are many foods which are good for your teeth. On the other hand there are some which do not do you any well. Here are 5 foods you should definitely learn more about if you want to have a beautiful smile.

Eat an apple
If you are eating apples regularly, it will help you get rid of plague on your teeth
and act as scrub on your tongue.

Dairy

Dairy products are some of the foods which are richest in calcium. And calcium is essential if you want to have healthy teeth. It is the key ingredient in the mineral called hydroxyapatite which is known to strengthen bones as well as teeth enamel. Even though teeth are not actually bones, they do share some properties with them, which means that proper calcium intake is of great importance for both of these. Many dairy products such as cheese, also contain casein, a protein which just like calcium is known for stabilizing and repairing teeth enamel.

Keep your teeth white with strawberries
Strawberries contain tooth-whitening enzyme, to keep your smile beautiful and your teeth clean.

Sugarless Gum

Sugarless gum helps you produce saliva and that way aids in cleaning your teeth. All the acids which are produced by bacteria in your mouth can be washed away with enough saliva. Not only this, but saliva also bathes your teeth in calcium and phosphate and that way strengthens your teeth. In addition to all of this, there are some types of sugarless gums which are sweetened with xylitol, the alcohol known to kill bacteria which can be found in our mouths. Still, a study from 2011 showed that flavored sugarless gums can slightly damage our teeth.

Avoid sugary drinks
A glass of red wine will not only keep your heart healthy, but also help prevent tooth decay
and gum disease.

Citrus Fruit

All the citrus fruits as well as their juices are full of vitamin C and many different nutrients which are good for your health. Still, when it comes to your teeth, these may not have as positive effect as you might have believed. Lemon and grapefruit are some of the citrus fruits which are highly acidic and can be bad for your teeth. Over the time, such highly acidic fruits can erode your teeth enamel and endanger your dental health. A study in 2007 showed that lemon and grapefruit can damage your teeth the most, while orange is the best citrus fruit for your teeth.

Watermelon can benefit the teeth
Watermelon can clean your teeth when eaten in moderation, but its sugar and acid content
can damage your teeth when enjoyed too much.

Pickles

As mentioned above, acid is something that can highly damage your teeth. Acid is one of the essential aspects of pickling process. It is this acid that gives pickles that sour, salty taste but it is also something that can be a real hazard for your teeth. A 2004 study showed that people who eat pickles every day had much trouble with tooth wear. It has also been proven that if you eat pickles more than once a day, you are 85% more likely to have trouble with tooth wear. Still, eating pickles from time to time will not have a negative effect on your teeth.

The natural toothbrush
Keep your teeth healthy with nature's toothbrush, apple, which stimulates the gums
and cleanses the teeth.

Soda

Drink coffee in moderation
Enjoy your coffee in moderation
for healthier teeth

A large number of us enjoys drinking soda every single day. It is no secret that sugar is not good our teeth. But it is not sugar that harms teeth the most when it comes to sodas. What many people do not know is that acid which can be found in carbonated soft drinks damages our teeth even more. This means that even if you drink sugar-free drinks you are still damaging your teeth.

If you tend to drink sugary drinks quite often, it is a good idea to have your teeth checked out from time to time. In case you decide to do this, there are some experts in the field of orthodontics who can help you.

One of the most important things you can do when you want to increase your dental health is being careful about your diet. Eating only foods which are good for your teeth will surely help you see some results after some time.
