Importance of Sleep for Better Skin Care

Get enough sleep for healthier skin

Lack of sleep can wreck havoc on your body. It can make you look tired and stressed. If you don’t sleep adequately, say, 6 to 7 hours a night, chances are your skin might have a heavy toll. On the other hand, a good night’s sleep is linked with good skin health and it can also keep away the appearance of premature wrinkles.

Studies have proved that people who are sleep-deprived feel higher levels of stress and have more inflammation in the body and both the factors can hurt the quality of skin. That’s why quality sleep should always be a part of your skincare routine.

It's well known that good, sound sleep is essential to our health and wellbeing. So, it's no
surprise to learn of the importance of sleep for better skin care, too.

Let’s look at importance of sleep for better skin care -

Enough sleep can prevent skin problems

If you don’t get enough sleep, there will always be a chance of various skin problems rearing their head sooner rather than later. In fact, studies have shown that not enough sleep can in fact worsen skin conditions. Those who lack sleep are more prone to inflammatory response in the body which can lead to increased acne breakouts. Some of other skin problems that lack of sleep can cause include skin sensitivity, irritant dermatitis and allergic contact dermatitis reactions.

Well-rested means a glowing skin

Your skin’s natural beauty will gradually fade away if you don’t take enough sleep. Those who don’t sleep for required hours will have increased inflammatory cells in their body. These cells are often responsible for the breakdown of collage and hyaloronic acid which is responsible for maintaining the glow and bounce of the skin. On the other hand, if you’re well-rested on a regular basis, the breakdown of the acid will be slow and your skin will thus be able to maintain its natural translucency. Make well-rested sleep part of your skincare routine.

Enough sleep can avoid immune-related skin problems

Lack of sleep can hamper the body’s ability to regulate the immune system. And when the immunity is weak, we not only get sick more often but the skin is more prone to flare up of immune-related problems such as eczema and psoriasis. If you have psoriasis, it is not only an indication of a skin disease but also shows the body inflammation. Worse still, those who have severe levels of psoriasis are at more risk for heart attacks and that’s why it’s better to get adequate sleep and keep the stress level low.

Good sleep keeps away puffy eyes and dark circles

Lack of sleep can take away your natural beauty. It can make you look dull and dispirited. When we sleep, the body rebalances hydration and the skin is able to get or recover the moisture. And when the skin is adequately hydrated, which means it’s well nourished and thus will maintain the natural beauty and glow. On the other hand, lack of sleep can lead to poor water balance in the body, causing puffy bags and dark circles under the eyes. It can also lead to visible wrinkles due to the higher level of dryness.

Adequate sleep can decelerate the aging process

Even if aging is inevitable there are ways to slow its process and maintain a youthful appearance and vigour for longer. However if you don’t get enough sleep it can accelerate the aging process. This happens because when we have deep sleep, more growth hormones are produced in the body which repair the damaged cells in the body. These hormones will be produced less when we sleep less, so the repair work won’t happen. This is how signs of aging are more prominent and more noticeable.

Proper sleep helps with weight management

Will weight management affect your skin in any way? Yes, those who have less weight look younger and more youthful than weighty people. Studies have shown that lack of sleep leads to weight gain while those who have proper sleep get help with weight management which is a part of skincare. Those who sleep adequately feel less hungry so have less chances of gaining weight. That’s why you should take your sleep seriously as it will help maintain your weight.

So, it’s clear that sleep has a deep link with your skin and getting proper amount of sleep can make you look beautiful and fit and with glowing skin.
